OUR STORY

Seven years ago, I fell pregnant with my second child Huey. After a difficult pregnancy with blood incompatibility (rhesus isoimmunisation) and a traumatic NICU stay, we spent years searching for answers for Huey’s growing list of medical issues.

My maternal intuition knew that something wasn’t quite right. When Huey suddenly lost hearing in his left ear, an MRI changed everything. Huey was born with congenital Cytomegalovirus (cCMV), a common and preventable infection that caused irreversible damage to his ears and brain. Huey’s list of diagnosis seems to grow daily and keeping on top of specialist appointments, therapies, schooling, NDIS and ‘normal’ life often feels overwhelming.

But Huey’s big blue eyes and undeniable ability to light up a room makes every little struggle worthwhile.

HEY, MY NAME IS MEL.

I’m a Clinical Nurse with 14 years experience in Emergency Medicine.

I’ve experienced both sides of the health care system and learnt so much along the way personally and professionally.

I want to impart some of that knowledge on those that are needing it. Let me help you find your voice in health care!

WORDS OF KINDNESS

  • Joanna's Story

“Around 12 months ago, our son was diagnosed with a rare illness. This news was emotionally devastating for my husband and I, as the medical system in Australia was not well-equipped to deal with such an uncommon condition. However, Mel, a strong, independent and highly inspirational advocate for people facing similar medical problems, came to our rescue. She generously shared her personal story with us and provided guidance, advice and multiple avenues to follow that we would have never known otherwise. Mel’s unwavering determination, advocacy, and support gave us the strength to fight for our son’s medical treatment.

Thanks to her timely intervention, our son is now thriving, happy and well-loved. We are incredibly grateful to Mel for her unwavering support and guidance, as her efforts ensured potential severity of our son’s illness was mitigated through early medical intervention.

There are not enough words to express the depth of our gratitude towards Mel for what she has done for our family and beloved little boy. Thank you again.”

  • Verity's Story

“Mel used her considerable knowledge of the medical system to assist in my journey navigating the public health care system, including putting me in contact with the right people at the right time.

Mel's positive, friendly and helpful support throughout was reassuring and comforting and ultimately helped me get the answers I was seeking.

Thanks, Mel, for making this process so much easier, all done with a beaming smile!”

  • Dianne's Story

“I first met Mel at our kid’s school. Mel is such a dynamic person. She is always upbeat, wears bright colours and is happy to help, even though she has her own challenges within her family, especially CMV in her youngest son.

I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma on December 28th, 2023. My initial appointment was scheduled for mid January as everything was closed over the Christmas/New Year period.

I spoke with Mel on January 8th, 2024 and told her of my concerns due to having a long waiting period and an unknown surgery. She utilised all of her contacts and was able to get me an appointment with a breast surgeon on January 9th with surgery booked for January 10th.

It was because of Mel that I was able to have surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy sooner than I would have had initially. I will be forever grateful for her help.“

We can help you find your voice & navigate healthcare challenges effectively.

BOOK AN APPOINTMENT

FAQs

  • The initial intake meeting will run for 1.5hrs to give plenty of time to share your story. Meeting durations can be booked according to the clients needs.

  • This is solely dependent on the clients needs. Most clients only require one session to gain clarity and direction. However, some may need more. Some may want to check in every few months for further advice or want another appointment because their circumstances have changed. The beauty is that it is completely driven by the client. We will never push anyone to have more sessions than they need/want.

  • Sessions can be held over Teams or Zoom. Or, if you are in Margaret River, WA, we can meet in person!

  • Our service is completely personalised to each individual client. However, each session will follow a template that will be provided to you after our session with a clear plan and summary of the session.

  • After spending time listening to your story, we will ask what your goals are and where you would like to be in 3/6/12 month's time. We will also take the time to assess your understanding of the health care system and provide education where needed. From here, we will tailor a personalised plan with triaged priorities to help guide you through your medical journey. This will also include any resources that might be available to help you along the way.

  • Please contact us for pricing information.

  • Absolutely. Terms of Service and Service Agreements are required to be signed by both parties prior to consultation and are renewed every 12 months. If a client requests us to discuss their health care with one of their medical team, a further disclosure document will be provided to ensure all legal requirements are correctly followed.

  • The short answer is no. Yes, Mel has a medical background; however, the purpose of this service is not to provide medical advice. I can direct you to the appropriate person for medical advice, and also help guide you as to what services are available that might be of help. Please refer to the Terms of Service and Service Agreement document for further information around this.

  • Good news! We are working on billing through NDIS for self and plan-managed clients. Watch this space!

Let’s heal together.
